Teikyo University has agreed to extend its regional partnership agreement with Borussia Dortmund (BVB), a top football club in the German Bundesliga, for another three years.
As Japan's first academic research partner with BVB, our university has been implementing the "Borussia Dortmund Program" since 2018 as part of its efforts to cultivate global talent, primarily among Faculty of Economics students. This program includes lectures and seminars held in Dortmund, and approximately 30 students participate each year.
With this contract renewal, the number of lectures at our university conducted by BVB's marketing department or SPORTFIVE, BVB's exclusive agent, will increase to three per year, which is expected to further enhance Practical learning experience for our students.
Furthermore, on Thursday, July 30, 2026, a special lecture was held at Kasumigaseki Campus of our university for our students, coinciding with the "BVB Evonik Japan Tour 2026." Approximately 30 students from Hachioji Campus participated in the lecture, which was moderated by Associate Professor Masaaki Aoki of Department of Business Administration Faculty of Economics. They heard valuable insights from BVB staff and agency SPORTFIVE staff on the themes of "The Current State and Prospects of the Sports Business in Japan from the Perspective of Dortmund" and "The Value of Becoming a Partner of Dortmund." Regarding the value of partnering with BVB, it was explained that it can lead to improved corporate image through the club's high recognition, the creation of new business opportunities, and collaboration toward solving social issues.
After the lecture, BVB presented signed jerseys and balls as gifts, and BVB legends Roman Weidenfeller and Park Joo-ho, who played alongside Shinji Kagawa, made a surprise appearance, creating a great deal of excitement in the venue.
Teikyo University will continue to create learning opportunities for its students based on the pillars of "Practical learning," "International perspectives," and "Open mindedness."
