We held a first-year educational seminar (Hakone Seminar Camp) for first-year students of the Department of Judo Therapy Faculty of Medical Technology

From July 11th (Saturday) to 13th (Monday), 2026, a first-year educational seminar (Hakone Seminar Camp) was held at the Teikyo University Hakone Seminar House for first-year students of the Department of Department of Judo Therapy, Faculty of Medical Technology at our university.
This seminar was held with the aim of fostering initiative and collaboration as the first step in university life, and deepening connections with classmates with whom students will study together for four years. More than 100 participants, including 7 faculty members, were divided into two groups and each group participated in a two-day, one-night residential training program.

The training included lectures on judo, medical ethics education, and pre-clinical education judo therapist, as well as group work where students collaborated with each other and independent study sessions utilizing early morning and evening hours. Furthermore, through communal living, students were thoroughly instructed on life skills such as time management and manners in shared spaces, providing an opportunity to acquire the basic ethical awareness required of healthcare professionals.
In the group work sessions, teams participated in competitive events, fostering enjoyable interaction and camaraderie amongst themselves. Furthermore, the seminar rooms were opened for independent study from 5 AM until breakfast and from 9 PM to midnight, attracting many students who sought answers to their questions about anatomy and physiology, received individual guidance, and taught each other.

This seminar was an excellent opportunity not only for the growth of the students, but also for the faculty members who accompanied them to deepen their understanding of the students and enhance their leadership and problem-solving skills, especially among younger faculty members. The experience of working closely together and responding flexibly among faculty members strengthened the bonds within the faculty organization and provided a great sense of confidence for future educational guidance.
Department of Judo Therapy considers this seminar to be the starting point of a four-year learning program. Based on this experience, we hope that each student will learn proactively, grow while supporting each other, and in the future become judo therapist who not only possesses knowledge and skills, but also empathizes with and supports people.
