A special lecture on "Myself at Work" was given by a human resources representative from a company as part of a class in the Department of Department of Political Science Faculty of Law, atHachioji Campus

On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Teikyo University's Hachioji Campus, Associate Professor Akira Parki of the Department Department of Political Science, Faculty of Faculty of Law, gave a special lecture as a guest speaker in his "Basic Liberal Arts Seminar I," following on from last year.
This course aims to cultivate the foundational skills necessary for Department of Political Science students to deepen their learning at university. This time, the theme was "Advice from HR Professionals on Considering Work," and we learned about the meaning of work and how to think about career choices from the perspective of HR professionals at companies.

Uchida Systems Co., Ltd. develops businesses that support workplaces, learning spaces, and living spaces through the use of ICT and spatial design. The lecture introduced the company's business overview and its approach to work, which involves delving into customer challenges and proposing solutions, providing an opportunity to reflect on the importance of understanding others and confronting challenges. Following this, Mr. Tanaka, drawing on his own job hunting experience and his experience as a human resources manager, said that "work is not everything in life, but a part of what makes up your life," and that it is important to know your own values. He also stated that "job hunting is not a place where companies choose students, but a place where both parties choose each other," and explained the necessity of considering a career path that suits you, taking into account the company's philosophy, work style, work process, and the reality of the workplace. The participating students learned once again that interviews are a place for mutual understanding, and that getting a job offer is not the only goal.

Soshi Hori (2nd year, Faculty of Law), who took the course, reflected, "In the future, I would like to work as a local government employee, supporting the lives of residents through administration and being involved in solving local issues. Through this lecture, I learned that in job hunting, it is not only important to be chosen by companies and local governments, but also to think about what kind of values I have and how I want to contribute to society." He expressed his enthusiasm to deepen his understanding of local government and make his future vision more concrete through future lectures, seminars, and internships.

In the second semester's "Basic Liberal Arts Seminar II," we plan to invite active civil servants to teach students about "working" from the perspective of public service. Our university will continue to emphasize specialized learning in seminars starting from 3rd year and the development of skills that form the foundation of career development, and will promote education that encourages each student to think about their future and their relationship with society through collaboration with practitioners.
