Ekiden (Road Relay) Club participated as volunteer escort runners in a blind marathon training camp hosted by the Japan Blind Marathon Association.

From August 3rd (Monday) to 10th (Monday), 2026, Haruto Kida (3rd year, Faculty of Economics) of the Teikyo University Ekiden (Road Relay) Club participated as a guide runner volunteer in the blind marathon training camp organized by the Japan Blind Marathon Association (JBMA) held in Kitami City, Hokkaido.
During this training camp, top runners with visual impairments trained to improve their running ability in the harsh summer environment. Ms. Kuida not only guided Yumiko Konno, a JBMA-designated強化選手 (enhanced training athlete), but also led and paced visually impaired runners *, participating in a demanding daily training regimen. Moving forward, the Teikyo University Ekiden (Road Relay) Club will continue to strive to balance competition and social contribution, developing activities that value connections with the local community and society.

  • * A runner who sets a consistent pace, serving as a benchmark for other athletes. They play a role in supporting other athletes in setting new records and achieving their target times.

I had the invaluable experience of participating in a blind marathon training camp. Training alongside visually impaired athletes, I strongly realized firsthand that disability is completely irrelevant when it comes to putting in the effort. I will use the lessons and inspiration I gained from this camp to further my own athletic career.
