We held a special lecture in Department of Business Administration, given by the general manager of a Cambodian football club.Hachioji Campus

Wednesday, July 22, 2026,At Teikyo University Faculty of Economics Department of Business Administration Associate Professor, a special lecture was held as part of the course “Introduction to Sports Management I” taught by Toshio Kumai. The guest speaker was Yusuke Shinoda, General Manager of ANGKOR TIGER FC, a professional soccer club in the Cambodian Premier League (the country’s top division).Many Japanese nationals, including the club’s president and head coach, are involved in the club’s management. Soccer has become firmly established as a national sport in Cambodia, and the sports market is expected to grow, driven by the country’s young demographic, with an average age of approximately 26.

In the first half of the lecture, Mr. Shinoda introduced the history of the club's management. He explained that while the club faced various challenges, such as operating deficits and poor athletic performance, it had built trust with the community through the "1 Child 1 Ball" project, which delivers balls to local children, and through continued community support activities. He also mentioned that these efforts, which emphasized collaboration with the community, led to improved team performance and increased attendance, deepening the students' understanding of the importance of community-based club management. In the second half of the lecture, Mr. Shinoda also introduced his own career, talking about his exploration of his career path during his university years, his decision to emigrate after encountering Cambodia, and how he arrived at his current career. He conveyed messages to the students such as, "The barriers to overseas and English are lower than you think," and "Excitement has an expiration date." He also introduced the club's internship program for Japanese students, and we were able to hear reports from students who had actually experienced internships there.

Students who attended the lecture shared comments such as, "I learned that as a General Manager, you are responsible for a wide range of tasks, not just strengthening the team, but also securing sponsors and building relationships with the local community, and I realized that a lot of ingenuity and effort is required to run a club," "The phrase 'excitement has an expiration date' taught me the importance of taking action on things I'm interested in without putting them off," and "I want to try an internship in Cambodia without being intimidated by the barriers of overseas travel and the English language." A lively Q&A session followed the lecture, making it a valuable opportunity for students to think about the sports business and career development overseas. Moving forward, our university will continue to provide opportunities for Practical learning education as outlined in Educational Guidelines, and support the growth of students by incorporating the knowledge of people who are active on the front lines of society into their learning.
