The Nakayama Seminar Faculty of Education participated in a storytelling-based global citizenship education program organized by UNESCO.

On July 25, 2026 (Saturday), students from Professor Kyoko Nakayama's seminar at Faculty of Education Teikyo University, participated in the international exchange program "Global Citizenship Education through Storytelling," held at the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Centre for International Understanding and Education (South Korea). This marks the fifth consecutive year that students from our university have participated.

This program aims to teach about global issues and diversity using picture books and stories, and to connect that learning to educational practice. This year, "peace" was the overall theme, and participating students from South Korea, China, and Japan who are enrolled in teacher training programs worked on creating lessons from the perspective of global citizenship education. The Nakayama seminar set "sharing" as its sub-theme and devised a lesson that would lead to the realization of peace. It was a lesson that used stories to think about peace, and the students presented it in English, including a mock lesson, deepening their learning through dialogue and exchange of opinions with the participants. In addition, the students created a "peace tree" to give shape to their feelings about peace, and together with students and faculty members from China and South Korea who were present at the venue, they wrote down "what they can do for peace in 10 years" to complete the tree.

During their time on-site, the students actively interacted with students from China and South Korea, deepening their connections despite language and cultural differences. For the students, this experience provided a valuable opportunity to learn practically about global citizenship education and international understanding, as well as to reflect on peace and coexistence in the international community.
