A special lecture was given by the General Manager of the Imperial Hotel Tokyo to Department of Tourism ManagementHachioji Campus

On Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Teikyo University (Hachioji Campus), a special lecture was held as a joint class between the Life Design Seminar offered by Teikyo University (Faculty of Economics, Department of Tourism Management, 1st year) and the Basic Seminar offered by 2nd year. Mr. Kazuhiko Yashima, General Manager of the Imperial Hotel Tokyo, was invited to Senior Assistant Professor to deliver the lecture.

The lecture introduced the Imperial Hotel's 135-year history, corporate philosophy, and the evolution of the hotel industry. Mr. Yashima explained the Imperial Hotel's philosophy of "people as the foundation," which it has cherished since its founding, and its corporate philosophy based on the spirit of hospitality inherited from its first chairman, Eiichi Shibusawa. He also introduced how each employee puts hospitality into practice through the corporate philosophy and code of conduct. Furthermore, he explained the Imperial Hotel's solid business development that emphasizes service quality, and the difference between "asset-light management," which is becoming mainstream in the hotel industry, and "asset-heavy management," which the Imperial Hotel employs. Through the lecture, we had an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the spirit of hospitality that the Imperial Hotel cherishes and the management policies that support its realization.

After the lecture, a question-and-answer session was held, during which students asked many questions such as, "What are the unique characteristics and strengths of the Imperial Hotel?", "How will human hospitality be carried forward into the future in the age of labor shortages and AI?", and "What are the things that should never be changed in the long history of the Imperial Hotel?". Mr. Yashima answered each question carefully. Through this valuable opportunity to hear directly from the head of one of Japan's leading hotels, the students deepened their understanding of the hospitality and tourism industries.
