Assistant Professor Sato Faculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology assisted with an interview with a student research team from Ewha Womans University who visited our university. (Fukuoka Campus

On Monday, June 29, 2026, Assistant Professor Hitoshi Sato of the Department Department of Occupational Therapy Faculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology, assisted a student research team from Ewha Womans University in South Korea with an interview.
Assistant Professor Sato has introduced a unique initiative by Omuta City, where local residents and related organizations work together to respond to situations where a person with dementia goes missing, as a field work exercise in the curriculum course called "Simulated Training of the Hot and Safe Network." Students from our university also participate as people with dementia, searchers, and guides, deepening their understanding of dementia and fostering connections with the community.
Furthermore, the Ewha Womans University student research team, which studies dementia policies in Japan and community-based dementia care, became interested in the "dementia-friendly town development" initiative being undertaken by Omuta City, where our Fukuoka Campus is located, and this led to their visit.

During the interview, we introduced the university’s collaborative initiatives with the local community, including the “Dementia Supporter Training Course” held annually for new students, as well as the picture book reading program for elementary school students on the topic of dementia, which Akihiko Koga of our university Department of Occupational Therapy Assistant Professor conducts together with students.We also shared a case in which a student actually discovered a missing elderly person, contacted the police, and helped ensure the person’s safety, demonstrating how students’ daily studies and community activities are being put to practical use in the local community.
The student research team asked many questions about the university’s “Community Engagement” activities and its dementia support initiatives, leading to a lively exchange of opinions. This interview served as a valuable opportunity to introduce our university’s practical initiatives to students from overseas.
