Students from Korean Course Department of Foreign Languages held a Japan-Korea exchange event with a group of South Korea university students visiting Japan atHachioji Campus

On Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Teikyo University Hachioji Campus, a delegation of 32 South Korea university students from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Japan Promotion Exchange Program "JENESYS2026" visited the university and held a Japan-Korea exchange event. This delegation is composed of university students selected from across South Korea as part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' JENESYS Program to Promote Understanding with Japan. Participants will visit various locations in Japan over approximately a week, aiming to promote understanding, mutual understanding, and strengthen friendly relations with Japan through inspections and international exchanges. This exchange meeting was made possible by our students participating in the Japanese university student delegation to Korea in the same program, and by Tomohiro Hara, our university's Faculty of Languages and Cultures Department of Foreign Languages Korean Course Professor, who will serve as the leader of the delegation in 2025.

On the day of the event, Hara Professor served as the coordinator, and 38 people participated, including students from his seminar and first-year students from our university: Faculty of Languages and Cultures, Department of Foreign Languages, and Korean Course.In addition to a campus tour, our university students and the visiting delegation engaged in group work. During the group work session themed “Japanese-Korean Fusion Cuisine,” the students—even though they were meeting for the first time—actively exchanged opinions using a mix of Japanese and South Korea, and worked together to develop their ideas.At the end, each group presented the results of their discussions in both Japanese and South Korea. Numerous creative ideas were proposed that made the most of the distinctive ingredients and culinary characteristics of both countries, and the exchange deepened in a friendly atmosphere throughout the event, with cheers and applause following each presentation.
Students from our university commented, “By observing the mock trial with the visiting students, I was able to discover new charms in the facilities I use every day,”“I was able to learn about the differences between university life and the educational system at South Korea,” while students from the visiting delegation shared comments such as, “It was a very valuable opportunity to interact directly with Japanese students of the same generation,” and “We shared a mutual desire to deepen our exchange, which allowed us to communicate actively.” The event served as a valuable opportunity to deepen mutual understanding of each other’s cultures and values.

Going forward, our university will continue to provide opportunities for international exchange, create spaces where students can put their learned foreign languages into practical use, and work to cultivate a global perspective while being exposed to diverse values and cultures.
