Teikyo University's baseball team is continuously engaged in community exchange activities through sports. As part of this effort, in February 2026, they held a baseball clinic for elementary school students at the Fuji City General Sports Park Baseball Stadium in Fuji City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Approximately 100 elementary school students from seven teams in Fuji City, along with team staff and parents, participated, expanding the circle of exchange through baseball.
The baseball team has been holding its spring training camp at the same stadium since last year, and this baseball clinic was realized with the cooperation of Fuji City as an initiative to deepen ties with the local community. Led by student coach Ren Asakawa (4th year, Faculty of Medical Technology), the clinic included warm-ups and fielding and batting practice. University students and elementary school students deepened their friendship while working up a sweat together. The children listened intently to the advice from the university students, and smiles appeared when they succeeded, filling the field with energy from beginning to end.
Furthermore, at the exhibition game held two days after the baseball clinic, the elementary school students and their parents who participated in the clinic came to cheer on the students, offering enthusiastic support. After the game, there were opportunities for interaction such as autograph signings and photo sessions, creating new connections that stemmed from the baseball clinic. The fact that the interaction through sports was not just a one-off event but led to the creation of lasting relationships with the community was a valuable learning experience for the students.
Asakawa, who was in charge of running the baseball clinic, reflected, "This was our first baseball clinic for elementary school students in Fuji City, and we were delighted to have about 100 players participate, filling the field with smiles from start to finish. I was very impressed by their serious expressions as they worked on basic drills alongside the university students, and the joyful looks they showed when they succeeded. For us, it was a valuable opportunity to reaffirm the difficulty and rewards of communicating and teaching. We were also truly encouraged when they came to support us at the exhibition game."
Our university is committed to continuously engaging with the local community through sports. As part of this effort, we will be holding a multi-sport carnival, "YuruSpo Baseball 5," at Hachioji Campus on Sunday, July 19th. On that day, students from both the hardball and semi-hardball baseball clubs will work together to provide local children with an opportunity to experience sports that everyone can enjoy. Cherishing the connections made through the baseball clinic held in Fuji City, the hardball baseball club will continue to work with the local community to spread the appeal of sports and foster a network of exchange.
