We held a special lecture atHachioji Campus, inviting Fuminori Kamezawa, a bronze medalist in the men's team table tennis event at the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics.

On Monday, July 6, 2026, at Teikyo University's Hachioji Campus, a special lecture was held as part of the "Introduction to Sign Language Communication I" course taught by Associate Professor Yuji Tamekawa of the Teikyo Graduate School Graduate School of Teacher Education. The lecture featured Fuminori Kamezawa, a bronze medalist in the men's team table tennis event at the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics. This lecture is offered to students at Hachioji Campus with the aim of deepening their understanding of sign language fundamentals and hearing impairment. This was the second consecutive year that Mr. Kamezawa was invited as a guest speaker, and this time he focused his lecture on his experiences at the 2025 Deaflympics, which will be held in Japan for the first time.

The lecture covered an overview of the Deaflympics and its significance, as well as interactions with deaf athletes from around the world, the differences in competitive environments observed during the Games, and the appeal of deaf sports. It also clearly explained the ingenuity required of athletes with hearing impairments in competing, and the unique characteristics of deaf table tennis, such as relying on visual information rather than the sound of the ball hitting the racket to judge spin and speed. The students listened attentively.
At the end of the lecture, a question-and-answer session was held, during which students asked many questions such as, "What are some of the most common difficulties in the daily lives of deaf people?" and "Are there any tricks you use when driving?" Mr. Kamezawa answered each question carefully, incorporating his own experiences, making it a valuable opportunity for the students to deepen their understanding not only of the sport but also of deaf people.

Our university will continue to provide learning opportunities that deepen understanding of diverse values and a harmonious society, and promote educational activities that broaden the perspectives of each and every student.
