International students from our university participated in a roundtable discussion titled "Learning from Experiencing Traditional Japanese Culture."

On Saturday, May 30, 2026, the 2026 International Student Roundtable, organized by the University Consortium Hachioji, was held in Hachioji City, Tokyo, and international students from Teikyo University participated.

This year, under the theme of "Learning from Experiencing Traditional Japanese Culture," more than 20 international students from eight universities, including our university, attended. Participants took part in the "Treasure Box of Tradition" program held in Hachioji City, where they enjoyed listening to and playing traditional Japanese music by the Hachiman Kamimachi Hayashiren, experiencing Tamaori weaving, and playing traditional games such as kendama and otedama. They also had the opportunity to directly experience traditional Japanese culture, participating in a tea ceremony where they tasted freshly prepared matcha and even tried their hand at preparing tea.

In the group work session during the latter half of the event, participants reflected on their experiences and competed in a Japan-themed quiz between groups. Our international students actively exchanged opinions while communicating with international students from other universities.
Participants shared comments such as, "I was able to feel closer to Japanese culture," and "It was a meaningful time to interact with international students from various countries and experience local festivals," making it a fulfilling day full of learning and interaction.
Office of Global Education at Teikyo University's Hachioji Campus will continue to provide opportunities for international students to experience Japanese culture and deepen mutual understanding.
