Our university's brass band held a concert and exchange event featuring the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony atHachioji Campus

On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, the Teikyo University Wind Orchestra hosted a concert and exchange event featuring the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony at the Teikyo University Hachioji Campus. The Colorado Springs Youth Symphony is a youth orchestra based in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA, founded in 1980. They have performed on world-renowned stages such as Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House, receiving high acclaim. The group has maintained exchanges with Japan since their first visit in 1996, and this visit was realized to commemorate the 30th anniversary of their first visit.

On the day of the event, the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony performed at Curiosity Hall, providing students from our university's brass band with an opportunity to experience musical expression and performance techniques. Our students also acted as guides, conducting a campus tour of Hachioji Campus and introducing the facilities and educational environment to the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony students and their parents. Following the concert, a social gathering was held in the student cafeteria, where participating students deepened their friendships, transcending language and cultural differences.

Gary Nicholson, Music Director and Conductor of the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony, spoke about their upcoming performances in Japan, saying, "Music is a universal language, and we want to share music with people all over the world. Our motto is 'Through Music, We Are One,' and with that in mind, we visit various parts of the world and engage in exchanges through music. When we come to Japan, we can experience a variety of cultures." He also reflected on his previous visit to Japan, saying, "During my last visit, I stayed with a host family and was able to experience Japanese culture and the warmth of its people," and spoke about the significance of their exchanges with Japan.
This concert and exchange event provided students with an opportunity to experience international exchange through music and deepen their understanding of different cultures.
