On May 5, 2026 (Tuesday), at the 62nd East Japan University Karate Championships held at the Nippon Budokan (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), the Teikyo University Karate Club won first place in both the men's and women's team kata and women's team kumite, and placed third in the men's team kumite.
This tournament is an important spring season competition where universities from Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto, Hokushinetsu, and Tokai areas compete for the top spot in Eastern Japan in team competitions. Team kata was newly introduced this year, and our university won the championship for the first time in both the men's and women's divisions. In addition, the women's team kumite won for the 14th time overall, and the first time in three years since 2023. This was also the first tournament for Coach Inada, who took office this year, but the students demonstrated the results of their daily training and achieved excellent results with stable matches. In the men's team kumite, they were defeated by the eventual champions, Hosei University, and unfortunately came in third place, but they received warm cheers and applause from parents and alumni at the venue.
Looking ahead, the Kanto Intercollegiate Karate Championships will be held on May 31st (Sunday), followed by the All Japan Intercollegiate Karate Championships on June 28th (Sunday). Individual competitions are on the horizon, and we look forward to seeing the students' performances. We appreciate your continued warm support for the Karate Club.
