Faculty of Law 's Professor Parki seminar invited a guest speaker to learn about disaster countermeasures in Hachioji City.Hachioji Campus

On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the seminar of Associate Professor Akira Parki of the Department Department of Political Science Faculty of Law University, invited Mr. Kondo, Chief Specialist of the Disaster Prevention Division of Hachioji City, as a guest speaker to give a lecture on the theme of "Disaster Countermeasures in Hachioji City." The Parki seminar focuses on "local government" as its research theme and places importance on opportunities to learn directly from people who are active in the field of local government.

This lecture was conducted with the aim of deepening our understanding of Hachioji City's overall disaster countermeasures. Mr. Kondo spoke about the attitude of local government officials towards disaster countermeasures, and we learned about the city's response based on the regional disaster prevention plan, the concept of evacuation shelters and evacuation sites, and how to read hazard maps, in addition to preparations made during peacetime. For the students of Professor Parkui's seminar, many of whom aspire to become civil servants, this was a valuable opportunity to think more concretely about the realities of administration, and it reinforced our understanding that disaster countermeasures are a comprehensive administrative issue for protecting the safety of residents.
Satoshi Nitta (4th year, Faculty of Law), who serves as the seminar leader, commented, "Learning about the specific disaster prevention plans and evacuation mechanisms of the government has greatly broadened my perspective on disaster countermeasures. In our future seminar activities, we will focus on emergency food supplies, and I would like to reflect what I learned about the overall perspective on disaster prevention and mitigation measures in our research and exhibitions."

The Parki Seminar plans to undertake projects on the theme of disaster preparedness food supplies at the Aosha Festival scheduled for October and the "Seminar Exhibition" scheduled for December. The administrative perspective on disaster response and the community-wide approach to disaster prevention that we gained through this lecture will be important clues for deepening future planning and research. As the seminar exhibition will be open to the public at the university's general museum, we aim to create an exhibit that clearly conveys the current state, challenges, and future possibilities of disaster preparedness food supplies, utilizing this knowledge. Furthermore, as a "seminar that learns from the field of local government," we will continue to deepen our collaboration with the community.
