From March 6th (Fri) to 8th (Sun), 2026, the 88th National Convention of the Information Processing Society of Japan was held at Matsuyama University's Bunkyo Campus, and Kanon Tsunematsu (4th year student, Faculty of Science and Engineering) received the Student Encouragement Award for her research presentation. This marks the 5th consecutive year and the 7th time overall that the laboratory of Associate Professor Kozo Mizutani, Department Department of Integrated Science and Engineering, Faculty of Faculty of Science and Engineering and Engineering, Teikyo University, to which Ms. Tsunematsu belongs, has received this award.
Ms. Tsunematsu presented her research titled "A Method for Presenting Question Candidates Using Real-Time Subtitles and LLM to Support the Verbalization of Questions During Lectures." In this research, as a means of immediately resolving questions that arise during class, she devised a method for displaying real-time subtitles of Professor 's lecture, a method for specifying the question part on the subtitles, and a method for automatically generating candidate question sentences using AI for the specified question part and sharing them with the instructor. She then reported the results of prototyping the system and testing it in actual classes. When students have questions during class and want to ask Professor, they may not know how to express their questions, but with this system, the AI presents candidate sentences, so students can ask their questions simply by selecting from these candidates. This mechanism is expected to make it easier to resolve questions during lectures on the spot, leading to improved understanding.
At the Mizutani Laboratory, the basic policy for graduation research is that students discover problems themselves, devise solutions, and verify them, rather than working on research themes assigned by their supervisors. This research project also aimed to solve problems based on existing research and practical experience-based assignments given during classes by Ms. Tsunematsu, utilizing the latest technologies and AI.
We expect to continue promoting creative educational and research activities among students in the future.
