On March 7th (Sat) and 8th (Sun), 2026, the 23rd East Japan U15 Junior High School Rugby Football Selection Tournament was held in Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture, and Yuki Okamura (4th year student, Faculty of Medical Technology) participated as a trainer for the Kanagawa Prefecture Junior High School Selection Team.
Students from the Department of Faculty of Medical Technology Department of Sport and Medical Science Teikyo University, have been involved as trainers for the Kanagawa Prefecture Junior High School Select Team for several years, and Ms. Okamura, who participated this time, was accompanying the team for the second time, following last year. Because she has been involved with the select team since last year, she has earned the trust of the team's coaching staff and was entrusted with leading the warm-up exercises at this tournament.
Okamura, who usually works as a student chief trainer for the university's American football team, shared his thoughts and future goals regarding this experience: "There is a difference between rugby and American football, which I usually watch, in whether or not braces are used, and the types of injuries that occur are also different. Therefore, I was able to respond to situations that I don't usually encounter, which was a very valuable experience. Also, thanks to the experience I gained through on-site training at the university, I felt that I had grown in terms of how to move around in the field and my knowledge compared to last year. However, I still lack the experience and knowledge to become a full-fledged trainer, so I would like to continue learning various things and do my best to become a full-fledged trainer. I also want to use what I learned this time to help raise the overall level of the American football team."
We look forward to seeing even greater achievements from Ms. Okamura in the future, as she continues to work hard towards her goal of becoming an athletic trainer, drawing strength from this experience.
