From March 17th (Tue) to 21st (Sat), 2026, Mr. Hang Gombe, Vice President of Copperbelt University, a partner institution of Teikyo University, visited our university and we held exchange events.
During his stay, he had a conversation with TUFS Chairman and President Yoshihito Okinaga and expressed his gratitude for the progress of academic exchange over the past year since the signing of the inter-university agreement. He also reported on the current status of health and environmental issues in the mining area, and we had a lively exchange of opinions for further development of joint research and personnel exchange in the future.
He also visited Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences Professor Hideki Yamamoto, Faculty Senior Assistant Professor Yukiko Tateyama, and School of Medicine Professor Kei Asayama, together with Utsunomiya Campus Faculty of Science and Engineering Director Professor Masayuki Arai, Graduate School Graduate School of Science and Engineering Director and Professor Shohei Sakuta, exchanged opinions on the University's internationalization efforts with them. In addition, they visited Faculty of Science and Engineering Professor Yuichi Hasuda, Faculty Associate Professor Takae Hirasawa, and other laboratories, as well as robotics, AI, and biotechnology research. They showed strong interest in the University's cutting-edge research, including interest in the development of an automatic mosquito trapping device that is expected to contribute to the fight against malaria and other mosquito-borne infectious diseases. Also, at the 96th Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Hygiene held in Utsunomiya City, Yamamoto Professor served as chairperson and Graduate School Graduate School of Public Health Senior Assistant Professor Yoko Tsuda served as co-presenter of the main symposium "From Ashio Copper Mine to the World: Think Globally, Act Locally: Using Shozo Tanaka's efforts as a clue, consider the environmental and social practices required in the modern age. Yoko Tsuda gave a lecture on environmental pollution at copper mines in the Copperbelt and sustainable mining at the main symposium, "From Ashio Copper Mine to the World: Think Globally, Act Locally.
Taking this visit as an opportunity, our university will further promote academic collaboration with Copperbelt University, including Fukuoka Campus located in Omuta City, which possesses expertise in urban development after the closure of coal mines, in order to realize a "sustainable mining society." We will also work to cultivate human resources and advance research that will contribute to solving social issues from a global perspective.
