From January 29th (Thursday) to March 5th (Thursday), 2026, a health promotion class for middle-aged and elderly residents of Hachioji City was held at Teikyo University's Hachioji Campus. This class is a collaborative project between Faculty of Medical Technology Department of Sport and Medical Science Medical Technology at Teikyo University, and Hachioji City, and this year marks its ninth year.
This year, we conducted a total of six health promotion classes for the general public and two classes for those working as instructors in the community. The classes for the general public aimed to establish exercise habits through physical fitness tests, health lectures, and health exercises, while the classes for instructors provided practical programs to learn safe and effective methods of exercise instruction.
The class was led by Associate Professor Yasuaki Saho and Senior Assistant Professor Akihide Yamamoto of the same department, with students aiming for professional careers such as athletic trainers participating as assistants in exercise instruction. The class was filled with energy as participants and students interacted and exercised together.
A total of 41 people participated in this class, and we received feedback from participants such as, "I feel better and more energetic each time," "I've become healthier and more agile with each session," and "I was energized by the students' warm-up," which showed that it was contributing to increased motivation for health improvement.
Teikyo University will continue to collaborate with Hachioji City to contribute to the health promotion and vibrant community development of local residents.
