Faculty Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences faculty visits Copperbelt University for academic exchange and on-site inspectionItabashi Campus

From Friday, February 13th to Sunday, February 22nd, 2026, Professor Hideki Yamamoto, Senior Assistant Professor Yukiko Tateyama, and two students from the Faculty Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Teikyo University visited Copperbelt University (Republic of Zambia) and conducted a site inspection. The two universities signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on academic exchange in February 2025, and this visit marks the first anniversary of the signing, with the aim of further deepening exchanges between the universities.

First, the delegation paid a courtesy visit to President Nyambe at the University's Kitwe Campus, where they discussed the promotion of academic and student exchanges and future developments in joint research. They then toured facilities such as the Health Center, deepening their understanding of the university's education and research system. Next, they visited the Ndola Campus, where the medical faculties are located, and toured medical facilities, the teaching hospital, and the National Institute of Health Sciences, where they exchanged views on a wide range of topics, including the current state of regional medical care and the research environment.
Next, they visited the Copperbelt Provincial Health Department and a primary-level referral hospital (community medical hospital) to deepen their understanding of public health activities and the current state of the local medical system. They also interviewed pharmacists at a community pharmacy to learn about residents' access to medical care and the actual state of medicine use.
Finally, the participants visited an unplanned settlement (Chawama district) in Lusaka, the capital of the Republic of Zambia, and the tuberculosis project run by the certified NPO Rocinantes, deepening their understanding of infectious disease prevention and community health activities in the field.
Through this visit, the participants were able to share the direction of joint research into issues in the fields of health care and environmental sanitation in Zambia, strengthen their network with local stakeholders, and advance concrete considerations toward continued faculty visits and the implementation of learning internships. For the participating students, experiencing health care practice in an environment with limited medical resources also provided an opportunity to reassess the public health and pharmaceutical knowledge they learned in their daily classes from an international perspective, providing a valuable experience that also allowed them to consider the perspectives and attitudes they will need to succeed globally in the future.

Teikyo University will continue to further develop its international healthcare talent and research collaborations through student exchanges, on-site training, and the promotion of collaborative research.
