On Saturday, February 7, 2026, the 59th Hachioji City Consumer Life Festival was held at the Hachioji City Lifelong Learning Center Building Create Hall (Hachioji City, Tokyo), where Associate Professor Takako Tezuka Faculty of Education Department of Elementary Education Teikyo University, and volunteer students set up a tasting booth.
Now in its 59th year, the event was held under the theme "Let's find out! What we can do now," and featured a variety of programs, including workshops, experience booths, and tastings, with exhibitors introducing knowledge and experiences that can be used in everyday life.
At our university's tasting booth, students cooked "Kenchinjiru" (soup soup) using vegetables from Hachioji and "White chocolate muffins" using mulberry leaf powder, and served them to visitors. Visitors commented, "I'm glad to see hot food made with local ingredients," and "It's delicious and easy even for children to eat," and it was a valuable opportunity for students to deepen their learning while interacting with local people.
The booth also displayed and sold "Mulberry City Hachioji Quiz Sugoroku," created by students taking a special lecture in Department of Tourism Management taught by Professor Konno Hisako Teikyo University Junior College College. The students learned a great deal by providing visitors with an opportunity to think about the local food culture and "Mulberry City Hachioji."
Teikyo University will continue to actively create practical learning opportunities in collaboration with the local community, working to promote student growth and contribute to the local community.
