Students from Faculty of Education Department of Elementary Education of Education, accepted students from Tokyo Metropolitan Nanao Special Needs School for an off-campus study tourHachioji Campus

On Friday, January 23, 2026, students from Faculty of Education Elementary Education, Department of Elementary Education Education, Teikyo University hosted a field trip for third-year students from the Tokyo Metropolitan Nanao Special Needs School High School Division at Hachioji Campus. This project was planned and run by students studying special needs education in the department at the request of Nanao Special Needs School to hold a field trip on the Hachioji Campus of Teikyo University, and this was the fourth time the project has been held.
On the day, 23 students from the high school division of Nanao Special Needs School visited the school. First, the students introduced Teikyo University and Hachioji Campus including a quiz. Next, they went on a campus tour, enjoying the view from the 20th floor of Soratio Square, touring the Media Library Center (MELIC) and ACT Three, and searching for "Teebo," Hachioji Campus mascot. Afterwards, they learned about restaurants at the student cafeteria, Soratio Kitchen, and shopping at Hachioji Campus shop, where the students deepened their interactions with the students while assisting them with purchasing meal tickets and paying. Finally, everyone danced together, creating a memorable moment.
Nakamura Susumu, Associate Professor in the department who supervises the students, sent a message to the students saying, "The students were so lively, I think they had a great time meeting everyone from Nanao Special Needs School. I hope they remember Teikyo University even after they graduate." A representative student from Nanao Special Needs School commented, "Lunch was delicious. I was happy to have such a fun time talking with the students."
For our students, this was an opportunity to deepen their understanding of professional instruction by observing the attitude of teachers at special needs schools when interacting with students with disabilities, and it was a fruitful time for both sides. Department of Elementary Education will continue to promote collaborative education with Nanao Special Needs School, and will strive to contribute to the local community and develop educational activities.
