The European Open Sofia is an international tournament organized by the European Judo Federation (EJU), and is considered an important opportunity for developing young athletes and earning world ranking points, with promising athletes from Japan being sent to the tournament. Both athletes placed highly in the 2025 All Japan Junior Judo Championships by weight class, and were selected as members of the delegation in recognition of their achievements as designated athletes.

Yokochi won all five matches from the first round to the finals with an ippon victory. Sato lost to a Polish player in the quarterfinals, but won the subsequent repechage match and won third place by a superiority victory over an Italian player in the third-place deciding match.
