On Monday, August 18, 2025, students from the seminar of Professor Nagataka Ogasawara, Head of Department of Tourism Management Faculty of Economics Teikyo University, collaborated with the Tokyo branch of the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF), a general incorporated association, to help plan and organize the "Let's take a trip to a Tokyo that's not like Tokyo: Nishitama Area Drive Stamp Rally."
The purpose of this project is to rediscover the charm of the region from the perspective of young people, and by using the flexible ideas unique to students to "create plans from a young person's perspective" and by having students select tourist spots, the project aims to uncover local resources and new attractions that have not previously received attention.
The stamp rally allows participants to visit various tourist spots in the Nishitama area and soothe their mind and body in nature. The Nishitama area is a convenient natural area that can be accessed in about 1 to 1.5 hours by car or public transportation from the city center.
The Ogasawara seminar conducts practical fieldwork on the themes of "tourism town development utilizing cultural assets" and "regional revitalization." This time, in addition to conducting on-site surveys during the summer vacation, the students incorporated their own ideas into the plan, including selecting spots and considering logo designs. It was also an opportunity to gain practical learning through interactions with local government officials and local businesses.
Participating students shared their impressions, saying things like, "Coordinating with the relevant municipalities to select the rally spot was harder than we thought, but we're relieved that it somehow came together," "Visiting and investigating potential rally spots during the summer vacation was difficult, but it was a very good experience," and "We're very happy that our own ideas were able to take shape with the help of many people, including the JAF." In the future, Ogasawara's seminar will continue this activity with new students.
This stamp rally will be held from Friday, January 9th to Sunday, March 15th, 2026. We look forward to seeing many people participate in this project, which is packed with new attractions for the Nishitama area.
