Ekiden (Road Relay) Club heldHachioji Campus

On Saturday, January 24, 2026, the University Ekiden (Road Relay) Club conducted a running class at the Teikyo University Hachioji Campus athletic field. This event was part of the TEIKYO Multisport Carnival, which provides opportunities to experience and enjoy sports. The purpose of this multi-sports event for elementary school students in the Tama region is to create a place where even elementary school students who are not good at sports can experience the joy of sports through interaction with the best university teams and top athletes in Japan.

Approximately 60 elementary school students participated on the day, forming groups with Ekiden (Road Relay) Club club to conduct warm-up exercises and basic footwork practice. They also practiced running techniques by splitting into university student and elementary school student teams for tag (a game of tag in which participants were divided into police and thieves), and splitting the participants into four teams for a relay race. The children seemed to enjoy running in every program. At the end of the event, there was a Q&A session with actual Hakone Ekiden runners, with questions fielded not only by children but also For parents and guardians, with questions such as "Don't you get tired running long distances?", "How do you run?" and "What percentage of the energy do you use to run long distances compared to short distances?" making for a fulfilling opportunity for interaction.

Teikyo University will continue to hold sports events that are closely connected to the local community, creating opportunities for children to experience sports.
