A student from our university won the Sports Agency Commissioner's Award at the "Student Competition 2025" sponsored by the Sports Agency.Hachioji Campus

On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, Kokoro Tomoda (3rd year student, Faculty Faculty of Economics), a member of Professor Yuji Kawakami's seminar in Department of Business Administration Faculty of Economics, Teikyo University, won the Director-General of the Agency for Sports and Technology Award in the Ideas category at the 2025 Sports and Health Urban Development Design Student Competition, sponsored by the Agency for Sports and Technology.

This competition is being held as part of measures related to regional revitalization and urban development through sports, and invites students from all over the country to submit diverse and flexible ideas and designs for "sports and health town development" in order to improve the quantity and quality of sports venues. For the 2025 fiscal year, 48 applications were received, and the second round of judging (presentations) was held on Tuesday, December 16th by students who passed the first round of judging.
Based on the concept of "BE YOUR BASE - anyone, anytime, any way you want," Tomoda proposed a plan to create a "wellness center" on the university campus that would combine a community gym and cafe, and that would be easily accessible to both students and local residents. The plan was highly praised for its scalable and sustainable urban development, including its system for independent student management, its use of space, and its innovative fundraising, and was awarded the Sports Agency Commissioner's Award, the highest award in the idea category.
Upon receiving the award, Tomoda commented, "I am very happy that my proposal was recognized. The idea came to me when, during my training in the United States, I was exposed to an environment where the university had a gym that was also available to general students. My theme was to create a space where sports and exercise are a natural part of life, and where everyone can act for themselves without worrying about what others think. I would like to take this opportunity to take the first step while I am still a student and make my student life more fulfilling."

This award is a result of the high recognition of Tomoda's creativity and desire to contribute to society, and we look forward to seeing him continue to achieve great things in the future. Our university will continue to support the growth of our students through various initiatives and strive to cultivate human resources who can contribute to the local community.
