Rugby Football Club finished the season in third place at the 62nd National University Rugby Football Championship.

On Friday, January 2, 2026, the Teikyo University Rugby Football Club faced Waseda University in the semi-finals of the 62nd National University Rugby Football Championship, held at the MUFG Stadium National Stadium (Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo), losing 21-31 and finishing the season in third place.

Immediately after the start of the match, the University of Tokyo Rugby Football Club was denied a try due to a penalty call, but a try by Kajikawa Naoyoshi (3rd year, Faculty of Medical Technology) tied the score. However, they were unable to gain momentum and ended the first half trailing 14-23. Penalties continued to be awarded in the second half, and the score seemed to widen to 14-31, but substitute Kai Takashin (3rd year, School of Medical Technology) tenaciously advanced, evaded the opposing defense, and scored a try. They narrowed the gap to 21-31, but the final whistle blew and the game was called to a close, and unfortunately they were eliminated in the semi-finals.
At the post-match press conference, Waseda University Rugby Football Club Head Coach Tomokazu Soma said, "I'm truly happy that the team we've built over the past year, led by Captain Omachi, has been able to come this far. I think I was perhaps defeated by Waseda University's determination to win. Next season, I'll work on that more and come back here again." Captain Yoshio Omachi (4th year, Faculty of Education), who has led the team of over 140 members for the past year, also entrusted the team's juniors with the task of reclaiming the title, saying, "I'm sure there will be times in our lives when we lose or feel frustrated. But it's important to get back up each time, and I believe our wonderful teammates will become true champions again next year. I hope that our wonderful juniors will work hard so that they can stand on this stage again and finish with a smile."

Our university's Rugby Football Club has been working hard this season with the goal of becoming the best university in Japan and winning the university championship for the fifth consecutive time, but the results this season ended differently than we had hoped for. We will use this disappointment as motivation to work hard again next season, aiming to become the best university in Japan, so we ask for your continued support.
