On Thursday, December 18, 2025, the 5th Global Challenges Seminar "Latin America = Far?" will be held for students, faculty and staff from all campuses of Teikyo University. Close? - The Other Latin America Behind the Jolly Music -" was conducted online.
The seminar was designed to provide an opportunity for participants to learn about international topics beyond the boundaries of their departments and disciplines, and to experience the educational policy of the university, "Teikyo Global Competency" and "Globalization as Everyday Life," through interactions and exchanges of opinions among participants across the campus.
On the day of the event, the University Faculty of Languages and Cultures Department of Foreign Languages Associate Professor "Setbacks and Challenges of Latin American Farmers Facing Disparity" by Yuichi Chishiro, Graduate School of Public Health Assistant Professor "Who will be 'Left Behind'?" by Takuya Yamada. Disparities in Latin America as Seen through Support for People with Disabilities in Colombia" by Takuya Yamada. In each lecture, the background and specific examples of social disparities in Latin America were introduced to deepen the participants' understanding.
At the beginning of the seminar, prior to the lectures, participants actively shared their own thoughts on "images and impressions that come to mind when one hears the word Latin America" through a chat. Following each lecture and Q&A session, participants then exchanged opinions during the free talk time to reflect on their initial image and deepen their understanding, based on the content of the lectures.
Approximately 38 students, faculty, and staff participated in this seminar, which provided an opportunity for learning and exchange across campuses.
