Professor Kazuo Maruyama of the Faculty Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences was awarded the title of Teikyo University Startup Company (Itabashi Campus

On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the Teikyo University Teikyo Technology Transfer Center Itabashi Campus, and awarded the 7th title to Kazuo Maruyama, Specially Appointed Professor in the Faculty Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Representative Director of Wellcella Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Wellcella), a venture company originating from the university.
Our university awards the title of "University Corporation" to university-originated venture companies that are established using our university's intellectual property, research results, or human resources.

Professor Maruyama founded WellThera in 2018 and is currently researching treatment methods using newly developed therapeutic theranostic bubbles combined with ultrasound for image analysis of blood flow and drug delivery (BUS-DDS). He is particularly focused on pancreatic cancer and brain diseases, and is working on research and development aimed at early practical application.

At the ceremony, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences Professor Ryo Suzuki, who has been conducting research with Professor Specially Appointed Researcher Maruyama, was also present. Teikyo Technology Transfer Center Director and Professor Hotaka Nakanishi facilitated the ceremony, and Chairman and President Yoshihito Okinaga presented the title to Professor Specially Appointed Researcher Maruyama and expressed their expectations and encouragement for Welcera in the future.

We expect further development of Wellthera in the future, with the aim of establishing treatments for cancer and brain diseases using bubble formulations.
