On Monday, August 25, 2025, the seminar of Associate Professor Susumu Nakamura Faculty of Education Department of Elementary Education, Teikyo University, participated in a social gathering at the disability support facility "Mitsubachi Work." This social gathering was planned by the founder of the academy, Masashi Isobe, and Associate Professor Nakamura, with the theme of "Going beyond supporting and being supported, and growing together as people." It was part of the "Mitsubachi Diver Academy," an independent support program provided by Mitsubachi Work that uses welfare services to resemble a junior college or university.
Ten users of the Honeybee Diver Academy and nine students from Nakamura's seminar studying special needs education participated on the day, deepening their connections through activities such as a self-introduction game, an introduction to the Diver Academy by the users, and a group work devised by the students called "A world drawn in one stroke together." For the group work, participants formed mixed groups, each drawing a line on a piece of construction paper, then pasting the colored pictures together to create a single work, allowing the users and students to interact with each other during the activity.
Participating students commented, "Seeing the efforts of the continuing employment support facility and how each user lives their life making the most of what they can do and their role, it was a valuable opportunity to think about the meaning and rewards of going out into society," "It made me want to work even harder on my research into inclusive education," and "I want to use this experience from the exchange event to create classrooms and schools where students can respect each other when I become a teacher in the future." Each of the participating students appeared to be trying to use this experience in their future research and lives, making it a very meaningful experience.
