Commemorative Lecture Held to Commemorate Professor Amari's Kyoto Prize and Election to the Japan AcademyItabashi Campus

On Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a commemorative lecture was held at Teikyo University's Itabashi Campus to commemorate the awarding of the Kyoto Prize to Shunichi Amari, Specially Appointed Professor at the Teikyo University Advanced Comprehensive Research Organization and his election as a member of the Japan Academy.
This lecture was held to celebrate Professor Amari's double honor of receiving the Kyoto Prize and being elected as a member of the Japan Academy, and was a valuable opportunity to widely share his outstanding achievements and knowledge. Approximately 230 people from both inside and outside the university attended.

The day started with opening remarks by Chairman and President Yoshihito Okinaga, under the chairmanship of Makoto Asashima, Director of Advanced Comprehensive Research Organization and Specially Appointed Professor, respectively, of the University. In his commemorative lecture titled "In Search of Mathematical Engineering: My Fortunate Life," Dr. Amari Professor looked back on his research career and talked about the development of his research and its prospects. He also spoke impressively about how his "good fortune" in meeting people and having opportunities in his research life has led him to his current achievements, and the audience was deeply moved.
After the lecture, Sawako Hanyuri, Special Director of Professor, presented a bouquet of flowers, and Executive Director and Vice President Hiroko Okinaga of the University gave a closing speech. The first part of the ceremony was concluded with a commemorative photo of Dr. Amari Professor and all the participants, followed by a round of applause.
The second part of the ceremony was a celebration, where faculty, staff, and others gathered to share the joy of the award with Dr. Amari Professor. After the toast, a friendly chat ensued, and each and every one of the participants expressed their respect and congratulations to Dr. Amari Professor.
The commemorative performance ended in a heartwarming and congratulatory mood.

Receiving the Kyoto Prize and being elected as a member of the Japan Academy are great honors for our university, and I would like to once again express my deepest respect for Specially Appointed Professor Amari's tireless study and outstanding achievements.
Our university will continue to promote the integration of the humanities and sciences and strive to cultivate the next generation of leaders.
