From Saturday, August 9th to Saturday, August 16th, 2025, students from Teikyo University School of Medicine participated in clinical ethics training at the University of Washington (USA).
This training has been running for over 15 years, mainly at Hyogo College of Medicine, with the cooperation of the social welfare corporation Hirakata Rehabilitation Center, and our university has been participating since 2024.
This year, five students and one faculty member from Teikyo University, along with five students from Hyogo College of Medicine, participated in clinical ethics lectures and seminars, and toured related facilities, including Harborview Medical Center. The lectures and seminars covered a wide range of topics, from the basic concepts of clinical ethics to the history of medical ethics in dialysis treatment, and the relationship between pediatric care and advanced medical care and medical ethics. The facility tour highlighted the hospital's advanced design, including a structure thoroughly designed with the patient's perspective in mind and fair access to all patients. Participating students commented that the training was extremely meaningful, saying things like, "I was reminded of the importance of patient- and family-centered medical care," and "It reaffirmed my desire to contribute as a physician in the future." They also actively interacted with students from Hyogo College of Medicine, demonstrating their collaborative approach to the training. This training not only contributed to the promotion of university internationalization, but also opened up possibilities for collaborative development in education, such as inter-university exchanges and the development of undergraduate education. Teikyo University will continue to promote internationalization.
