On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, Research Institute of Cultural Properties, Teikyo University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Kazakhstan National Margran Archaeological Institute (Almaty, Kazakhstan).
The Institute is a leading organization in archaeological research and cultural heritage protection at Kazakhstan's ruins. The vast country, which occupies most of Central Eurasia, employs numerous staff members to conduct research, and international collaborative research is also active. However, given the limited number of natural science analysis experts compared to the number of excavations, there is a need to develop domestic experts. Kazuya Yamauchi, Director of the Institute, and Akhan Ongaruly, Director of the Malgran Institute of Cultural Properties Institute of Cultural Properties, have reached this agreement to promote international collaboration, leveraging the expertise of the Institute in these fields and promoting joint research in Silk Road studies.
Going forward, we will continue to promote human resource development and joint research through training for young experts using materials excavated in Kazakhstan, joint research, symposiums, and invitations to Japan.
