Assistant Professor Wanai Faculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology, won the Case Report Award at the 122nd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Veterinary Cardiology.Fukuoka Campus

At the 122nd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Veterinary Cardiology, held at AP Shinbashi (Minato-ku, Tokyo) on Saturday, June 28th and Sunday, June 29th, 2025, Assistant Professor Keizo Wanai Faculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology Department of Medical Technology Fukuoka, Teikyo University, won the Case Report Award for his presentation titled "A case of a very small dog in which a dialysis puncture catheter was used instead of a cardiopulmonary bypass blood infusion cannula."

This case report presented a new method of applying a 14G dialysis catheter as an alternative to the conventionally used 8Fr blood supply cannula in cardiopulmonary bypass treatment for a very small dog weighing less than 3 kg. Cardiac surgery in a very small dog was difficult to perform with existing medical equipment, but the safe and effective treatment under limited conditions was highly praised.
The results of this study are a practical study that combines ingenuity with the needs of clinical practice, and it is hoped that their application to similar cases in the future will make a significant contribution to saving the lives of small dogs weighing less than 3 kg.
This research is an advanced initiative that bridges the gap between clinical engineering and veterinary medicine, and as a research outcome originating from Teikyo University's Fukuoka Campus, it is expected to develop further in the future.
