On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, Yuki Amano, Senior Assistant Professor Teikyo University Learning Technology Laboratory, received the Yamashita Memorial Research Award from the Information Processing Society of Japan. This award is given to outstanding paper presenters from various research groups and symposiums of the Information Processing Society of Japan.
Senior Assistant Professor Amano received the award in recognition of his paper presentation on "Information education practices incorporating fact-checking at universities," an educational practice at our university.
In this study, a fact-checking report assignment was conducted in the "Information Society" class for third-year students in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at our university, in which students were asked to verify the veracity of information. The submitted reports were then analyzed. The results showed that, despite an explanation of cognitive bias in the lecture, some students continued to search for references that favored their own opinions. However, it was also confirmed that being able to choose a topic they wanted to work on from multiple case studies led to increased motivation to learn.
The award ceremony will be held at the 88th National Convention of the Information Processing Society of Japan, which will be held from March 6th (Fri) to 8th (Sun) 2026.
We look forward to seeing more from Senior Assistant Professor Amano Yuki in the future.
