On Friday, July 18, 2025, at the Teikyo University Hachioji Campus, Associate Professor Hiroaki Ito of Department of International Economy Faculty of Economics, taught a class titled "World Situation (Middle East) I," in which he welcomed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Japan, Mr. Oğuzhan Ertuğrul, to give a special lecture.
In his lecture entitled "Turkish Foreign Policy and Turkish-Japanese Relations," he introduced basic information about Turkey, including its language, religion, and food culture, before explaining Turkey's foreign policy and contributions to the stability and peace of neighboring regions, including Ukraine, Russia, and Azerbaijan. He also spoke about the history of Japan-Turkey relations, which began with the sinking of the Ertuğrul ferry in 1890, and continued through to the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1924, and the 100th anniversary of those ties in 2024. He also emphasized the close ties in areas such as trade, tourism, and archaeology.
The participating students asked a wide range of questions, including "What is important in the future relationship between Turkey and Japan?", "What is the ambassador's motto?", and "Please tell me some recommended Turkish dishes," to which the ambassador answered each carefully. Some students even communicated directly with the ambassador in English without an interpreter, making it a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of the current situation in Turkey and its relationship with Japan.
