On Monday, June 2, 2025, a class on regional policy taught by Associate Professor Akira Pakui of the Department Department of Political Science, Faculty of Faculty of Law Teikyo University, featured guest speakers Chie Nagao and Yuki Mine from the Collaboration Promotion Division of Hachioji City.
In this class, students learned about the nature of town development carried out by various entities such as NPOs, neighborhood associations, and local economic organizations from the perspective of local government and regional policies, and this time, specific examples of community development through collaboration with neighborhood associations, enhancement of community policies, and collaboration with civic groups, businesses, and universities were introduced. The idea of creating a virtuous cycle that leads to the future of the region by local stakeholders utilizing each other's strengths and supporting each other, and the idea that "collaboration" is not an end in itself but a means to achieve "citizen-led town development" and "better services" were emphasized, making this a lecture that made students realize the importance of the role that citizen and regional power plays in solving regional issues.
Students who took the course shared their impressions, such as "I was able to concretely understand how the meaning of the word collaboration is put into practice in the field," and "I was surprised at the substantial efforts being made by Hachioji City. It made me interested in the policies of the town where I live," demonstrating the deepening of their learning by linking the field of urban development with theory. In the future, the Regional Policy Theory course will continue to invite practitioners active on the front lines of the region as Senior Assistant Professor, providing each student with opportunities to develop the perspective and motivation to be a leader in the local community.
