Teikyo University's Hachioji Campusbecomes the first university in the Kanto region to be certified as a Japan Heritage Supporter University.

On Monday, May 12, 2025, Teikyo University became the first university in the Kanto region to be certified as a "Japan Heritage Supporter University" by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. Professor Konno Hisako of the Department of Human Culture Teikyo University Junior College College and three students from Department of Tourism Management in the Faculty Faculty of Economics, who were involved in the activities that led to the university's Department of Human Cultures attended a press conference held by the Mayor of Hachioji on Monday, June 2.
Under this system, the Agency for Cultural Affairs works in cooperation with the councils of Japan Heritage-certified regions to register higher education institutions that actively engage in educational and research activities that utilize the region's Japan Heritage sites, based on the council's recommendation. Our university is the eighth school in the country to be registered.

Professor Konno's "Special Lectures on Tourism Management" in Department of Tourism Management Faculty of Economics incorporates the story of Hachioji City's Japan Heritage, "Mt. Takao, a Mountain Full of Spiritual Energy - The Story of the Mulberry City Woven Through People's Prayers." In collaboration with the Hachioji City Japan Heritage Promotion Division (Secretariat of the Japan Heritage "Story of the Mulberry City" Promotion Council), the Hachioji Textile Industry Association, and shared kitchens in Hachioji, the school has planned and run a variety of events to encourage young people to take an interest in local culture, including the "Mulberry City Hachioji Quiz Sugoroku," which was planned and produced by students, the development of an original sweet called "Mulberry Leaf Pudding," and a hand-weaving experience event led by a traditional craftsman.
"Mulberry City Hachioji Quiz Sugoroku" has been donated as a teaching material to all 69 elementary schools in the city, and based on this achievement, the Japan Heritage "Mulberry City Story" Promotion Council applied to the Agency for Cultural Affairs to designate our university as a "Japan Heritage Supporter University," which led to its certification.

This year, Professor Konno will continue to work with Hachioji City to create a sustainable city that makes use of its mulberry culture and textiles through initiatives such as creating an improved version of the board game, hosting events, and raising awareness of eating mulberry fruit while walking around.
Teikyo University will continue to provide Practical learning education that is outlined in Educational Guidelines.
