Kasumigaseki CampusProfessor Masaki Sugimoto gave invited lectures at UAE University and the Middle East's largest summit

Professor Masaki Sugimoto of the Innovation Lab Okinaga Research Institute of Teikyo University gave invited lectures at UAE University (United Arab Emirates) on Monday, May 26, 2025, and at the Middle East's largest summit on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

On Monday, May 26th, he was invited to “Future Tech Talks: Healthcare and Education in the Digital Age” held by the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) and gave a lecture titled “Augmented Holographic Surgical Navigation Using Extended Reality.”
In addition to providing an overview of surgery support systems using XR technology, the lecture also considered from various angles its applications in education and remote support, as well as its contribution to reducing environmental impact. In particular, the spatial hologram display of Holoeyes Inc., a venture company spun out of Teikyo University, was emphasized as allowing the shape of organs and surgical plans to be intuitively grasped, which prompted lively Q&A from the audience. In addition, a demonstration and experience session of the XR service developed as a result of joint research with the company was held, introducing participants to the possibilities of preoperative planning and intraoperative support using the latest spatial computing technology. On the day, faculty, students, and medical professionals from multiple faculties, including the Faculty of School of Medicine at the university, Engineering, Information Science, and Education, gathered at the event, and many suggestions were given about the future of digital medicine and education.
On Tuesday, May 27th, I was invited to Arab Media Summit 2025 (AMS2025) held at Dubai World Trade Center and gave a speech entitled "A Japanese Vision for the Future of Media". This forum is one of the largest media events in the Middle East, sponsored by the Dubai Emirate Government, and brings together over 6,000 media professionals to discuss the future of journalism, digital content and communication. The program included world-renowned editors and influencers from CNN, Reuters, Arab News and other media companies. In my speech, I explained how to build a data-driven and personalized media strategy using AI, the media application of 3D hologram technology and metaverse space cultivated in medical XR, the potential of spatial interactive content fused with AI technology, and my vision for co-creation-type innovation collaboration with media companies and universities in the Middle East.

After the lecture, Professor Sugimoto commented, "Now that the boundaries between media and healthcare are rapidly melting, the idea of 'spatializing information' with AI and XR is the key to next-generation media. We will utilize the network we gained at AMS to create new content experiences with partners in the Middle East." He also spoke about his future outlook, saying, "We will further deepen our collaboration with medical and educational institutions in the Middle East, including the UAEU, and aim to realize a safer and more sustainable medical environment. We will also promote international joint research through AI and XR technology, and contribute to solving social issues and creating new value." We look forward to Professor Sugimoto's future success.
