Hachioji CampusWe invited a guest speaker from Kawaguchi City, Saitama Prefecture to hold a class for the Faculty of Faculty of Law

On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, Teikyo University Faculty of Law Department of Political Science Associate Professor Akira Pakui's Public Administration I and Seminar I & III classes featured a guest speaker from Kawaguchi City, Saitama Prefecture. The class was designed to learn about policies and systems in local government from both theoretical and practical perspectives, and the aim was to deepen students' understanding of the local government workplace by hearing directly from people with practical experience in local government.

In Public Administration I, we welcomed Ms. Eri Numaguchi from the Childcare and Kindergarten Division of the Children's Department of Kawaguchi City as Senior Assistant Professor. She spoke about her career as a city hall employee, how she approaches her daily work, and changes in her job duties through personnel transfers, with specific stories of her own experiences, under the title "The Frontline of the Municipal Workplace - the Actual Situation of City Hall Employees". In Exercises I and III, we welcomed Ms. Fumika Iwakura from the National Health Insurance Collection Division of the Health Department of Kawaguchi City as Senior Assistant Professor. Under the theme of "The Choice of Becoming a City Hall Employee", we were able to hear about the mission of the administration in facing the issues of the local community, and the difficulties and rewards of public service. After the lecture, Ms. Numaguchi joined us for an active Q&A session, which was a meaningful opportunity for students to concretely imagine what it would be like to work as a public servant.

In the past two years, several students from the Pakui seminar have participated in internships in Kawaguchi City, and several students are scheduled to participate during the summer vacation period this year as well. In the future, Associate Professor Pakui's classes will continue to invite guest speakers who are active on the front lines of the local community, and by incorporating on-site knowledge into their studies, they will deepen their understanding and aim to develop human resources who will contribute to the community.
