The Karate Club won the men's team kumite at the East Japan University Karate Championships for the 15th time and the first time in 7 years.

On Monday, May 5, 2025, at the 61st East Japan University Karate Championships held at the Nippon Budokan (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), the Teikyo University Karate Club won the men's team kumite and came in second in the women's team kumite. This is the 15th time the men's team has won, and the first time in seven years since 2018. This tournament is a tournament in which universities from Hokkaido to Tohoku, Kanto, Hokuriku, and Tokai areas compete in a five-person men's and three-person women's team kumite tournament in a tournament format.
The match was watched by parents, alumni, and university officials, and included first-year students who had just enrolled, but they showed a calm and collected play from the beginning, making it hard to believe that it was their first match as a new team. In particular, the fourth-year students' stable play was reliable, even in the finals.

In response to these results, Kagawa Masao, head coach and instructor of the university's karate club, praised the students' efforts, saying, "On the men's side, the fourth-year students, led by vanguard Yuge, showed great performance that consistently led the match, which was a great gain that will give them momentum for the team competition in the fall. Even if you have some slip-ups during the match, it's important not to lose spirit. The students have immeasurable energy and were able to perform unimaginable movements and techniques, and it was wonderful to see them demonstrate this on this stage. The women also did well, making it to the finals, so I hope they will make use of this experience in the fall."

We expect the team to become even stronger by the time the next team competition is held in October after competing in the Kanto qualifiers, All Japan and individual competitions. We appreciate your continued support for the Karate Club.
