The Hachioji Textile Industry Association presented the Calligraphy Club with a sash to be used at the Osaka-Kansai Expo.

On Friday, April 18, 2025, the Hachioji Textile Industry Association presented the Teikyo University Calligraphy Club with a sash to be used at the Osaka-Kansai Expo. Hachioji, with its history of sericulture and textiles, is known as the "City of Mulberry" and is the only area in Tokyo designated as a Japan Heritage Site. The university's Calligraphy Club recently announced that it would be performing a calligraphy performance at the Osaka-Kansai Expo. This project began with the desire to perform with pride, using Hachioji textiles. The sash is made of 100% lustrous silk, and its red design beautifully complements the simple hakama worn by the calligraphy club members. Calligraphy club captain Koko Otobuchi (3rd year, Faculty of Liberal Arts) commented, "It's light and comfortable to wear. We want to perform a powerful and dynamic performance at the Expo that will reach the hearts of as many visitors as possible. I feel a heavy sense of responsibility, carrying the legacy of Hachioji on my shoulders." Hiroyuki Makida, Executive Director of the Hachioji Textile Industry Association, gave a message of encouragement, saying, "I hope you will put on a great performance while promoting Hachioji."
Our university's calligraphy club will be performing calligraphy at the EXPO Messe "WASSE" (Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture) on Sunday, May 11th, 2019, at the Osaka-Kansai Expo site, twice at 11:00 and 14:00. Please come and join us!
