On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, the Teikyo University Hachioji Campus hosted an on-campus event in which the Teikyo Sports Supporters Association and the baseball team held a speed gun contest using tennis balls. The event was planned primarily by students from the Teikyo Sports Supporters Association with the aim of providing an opportunity for students and faculty to experience the appeal of Teikyo sports and to increase interest in club activities.
The event took place during lunch break, so many students gathered at Mominoki Square, where they could be seen smiling as they threw tennis balls handed to them by students from the baseball club towards the catcher. From students who hadn't thrown a ball in a while to those with baseball experience, everyone threw the ball skillfully, with a student from Rugby Football Club recording a ball speed of 136 km/h, drawing gasps of admiration from those around them. Participants in the contest received special baseball club player cards, making it a great opportunity to learn about the club's activities and players.
Nana Yazaki (4th year, Faculty of Liberal Arts), who organized the event, explained the purpose of the event, saying, "In conjunction with welcoming new students to the Teikyo Sports Supporters Association, we aimed to create an atmosphere of support, foster interest in university sports, and raise awareness of our association, while valuing the connection between students who belong to the baseball club and the general student body."
Miyagi Rui (4th year, Faculty of Medical Technology), captain of the baseball team, said, "This event made me realize how much support we are able to carry out our activities thanks to the support of many students and faculty and staff, including the students and staff of the Teikyo Sports Supporters Association. I would be happy if more people start supporting the baseball team through this activity. We appreciate your continued support."
Teikyo University will continue to create opportunities for students to experience sports through on-campus events, fostering interactions between students and helping them to feel closer to sports, thereby revitalizing the campus.
