From February 26 (Wed.) to 28 (Fri.), 2025, students of the Geography course conducted fieldwork in Suwa, Chino, and Okaya Cities, Nagano Prefecture, as part of the Geography Field Training Program offered by Teikyo University Faculty of Liberal Arts Department of History Associate Professor Junpei Hirano.
The purpose of this field training is to understand the nature, culture, and history of the Suwa area through fieldwork. With support from Matsuki Kanten Chosyukan, Okaya Silk Museum, and Yatsugatake Sogo Museum, the nine participating students were able to learn deeply about the history and current status of industries rooted in the local climate. Participating students commented that they were able to better understand how industries unique to the Suwa area have developed by making use of the natural environment, such as climate and water, in sericulture and agar production.
The students will continue to conduct further research using the fieldwork methods they learned this time.
