Itabashi CampusAssociate Professor Masakazu Hirota has been selected as a NEDO Front-Runner (FR)

On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, Masakazu Hirota, Associate Professor Department of Orthoptics Faculty of Medical Technology Teikyo University, was selected for the NEDO-Front-Runner (FR) project, a public offering program run by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), a national research and development agency. The program is called "Support for R&D startups in establishing and securing management talent/Human resource discovery and entrepreneurship development in the deep tech field (NEP) Pioneer Course."
NEP is a NEDO-run program specializing in the development and support of potential entrepreneurs from the pre- to early stages of business establishment. FR will conduct research and development and build business models to solve social issues using technological seeds, while receiving hands-on guidance and advice from NEDO-appointed "Accompany Runners (ARs)" who will support commercialization and provide support for activities.

By developing an application that monitors the progression of myopia and suggests appropriate times to replace glasses, Associate Professor Hirota aims to create a society in which all children can study with the appropriate vision for learning and maximize their potential. He has previously participated in startup support initiatives such as business contests and business support programs run by the university.
This adoption is expected to further advance research, development, and consideration toward social implementation.

Teikyo University will continue to support startups in order to commercialize and implement the research results of its faculty members and others in society.
