Itabashi Campus "Nation of Lifesavers" hosted by the American Heart Association was held at Itabashi Campus

On Thursday, March 27, 2025, the "Nation of Lifesavers" cardiopulmonary resuscitation promotion event, sponsored by the American Heart Association, was held at Teikyo University's Itabashi Campus.
The American Heart Association is a US organization whose mission is to provide information and resources to save and improve people's lives from cardiovascular disorders and strokes, and to promote cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) worldwide. "Nation of Lifesavers" aims to teach CPR and the use and skills of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and consists of lectures to convey the importance of CPR and practical training sessions to master the techniques.
The event featured a keynote speech by Dr. Damodhar P. Suresh, an American Heart Association Volunteer International Advisor, as well as speeches by Tomokazu Soma, Senior Assistant Professor at the Sports Medicine Center and coach of the Teikyo University Rugby Football Club, and the Teikyo University ACLS Study Group, a student group Itabashi Campus. Additionally, awards were presented to Teikyo University, which co-hosted the event, and the Japanese Circulation Society and Teikyo University ACLS Study Group, which sponsored the event, in recognition of their long-term contributions to American Heart Association training.
During the CPR training session, participating students performed simulations of CPR and AED use under the guidance of a trainer. Using a smartphone app to measure the quality of chest compressions, participants acquired more accurate techniques. At the end of the training, participants were presented with certificates and badges from the American Heart Association, and everyone praised their peers for their dedication in performing "strong, fast, and continuous" chest compressions. Professor Ichiro Kaneko of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Tokyo's School of Medicine, who served as the lecture and moderator for the training session, commented, "Since 2020, the survival rate from sudden cardiac arrest in Japan has declined significantly. By sharing and passing on the CPR skills learned in this training session, and by those who have learned them, we can save more lives. Please spread the word about what you have learned here."
Teikyo University is focusing on more practical medical education, including simulation education, in order to cultivate "good medical professionals." Teikyo University will continue to contribute to society at large through its medical and healthcare education and research activities.
