Hachioji CampusStudents from the Department of Department of Elementary Education Faculty of Education, accepted students from Tokyo Metropolitan Nanao Special Needs School for an off-campus study trip

On Friday, February 14, 2025, students from Faculty of Education Elementary Education Department of Elementary Education Education, Teikyo University hosted a field trip for third-year students from the Tokyo Metropolitan Nanao Special Needs School High School Division at Hachioji Campus. This project was planned and run by students taking Associate Professor Susumu Nakamura's "Educational Studies Seminar/Graduation Research" course at the request of Nanao Special Needs School to hold a field trip on Hachioji Campus of Teikyo University. This was the third time the project has been held.
On the day, 25 students from the high school division of Nanao Special Needs School visited the school. First, the students introduced Teikyo University and Hachioji Campus including a quiz. They then toured the campus, enjoying the view from the 20th floor of Soratio Square, visiting the Media Library Center (MELIC) and ACT Three, and searching for "Teebo," Hachioji Campus mascot. Afterwards, they participated in a first-time restaurant experience at the student cafeteria, Soratio Kitchen, and a shopping experience at Hachioji Campus shop, where the students deepened their interactions with the students by assisting with purchasing meal tickets and paying. Students from Nanao Special Needs School shared their impressions, saying things like, "It was fun talking with you students," and "It was a valuable experience. I want to continue growing."
Our students commented, "I learned a lot from watching how the teachers interacted with the students," and "It was rewarding to see the students happy. I hope it will be a memorable experience." The program was a fruitful experience for both parties, as it was an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the attitude of teachers when interacting with students with disabilities and the specialized instruction they receive by observing the teachers at special needs schools.
Faculty of Education Department of Elementary Education of Education, will continue to promote educational collaboration with Nanao Special Needs School and strive to contribute to the local community and develop educational activities.
