Itabashi CampusProfessor Amari elected as a new member of the Japan Academy

On Thursday, December 12, 2024, Shunichi Amari, Special Professor Advanced Comprehensive Research Organization at Teikyo University, was elected as a new member of the Japan Academy.
The Japan Academy is an organization established by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology with the aim of carrying out activities necessary to contribute to the development of academics, and its members are selected from scientists who have made outstanding academic achievements. Organized with a membership of 150 members, the Japan Academy has a history of over 140 years, dating back to the Tokyo Academy, which was founded with Yukichi Fukuzawa as its first president.

Professor Amari, who was selected as a new member, is a researcher in the field of mathematical engineering, which uses mathematical methods to elucidate the mechanisms of various phenomena. He has conducted research on neural networks that mimic the neural circuits in the human brain, and has published theories that form the basis of AI deep learning. He is currently working in AI Application Sector of the Advanced Comprehensive Research Organization at our university, where he is engaged in specialized research on AI and cross-disciplinary research that transcends academic fields.
Specially Appointed Professor Amari commented, "It is a great honor. I would like to continue thinking about academia, education, society, and civilization in the age of AI, centering on our university's Core Comprehensive Academic Research Organization."
Our university will continue to work to solve various social problems and issues through our research activities.
