At the Seisha Festival held at Teikyo University's Hachioji Campus on Saturday, October 26th and Sunday, October 27th, 2024, the student group Co-Reading Supporters held a "Co-Reading Festa" and planned three events: a Co-Reading Used Book Fair, a Book Rally, and a Bibliobattle.
The Kyodoku Used Book Market is a unique secondhand book market, with events such as the "One Box Used Book Market," where all Kyodoku Supporters become store owners and sell selected books based on a theme with comment cards attached, and the "Comment Market," where the book titles are hidden and people can choose the books they want to read by looking only at the recommended comments.
The book rally is a collaborative reading experience exclusive to the Seisha Festival, where visitors follow a story as they tour the Media Library Center and take on three book-related missions, with prizes awarded upon completing all three. The event is designed to allow visitors to communicate with students through books.
The Bibliobattle is an intellectual book review battle in which presenters present their recommended books within a time limit, and the audience votes to determine the book they most want to read. On the first day, the finals of the Co-Reading Supporters representative competition were held, featuring five Co-Reading Supporters: Takuya Niizuma (4th year, Faculty of Liberal Arts), Yasuhiro Shimada (4th year, Faculty Faculty of Liberal Arts Faculty of Liberal Arts), Kyoka Tazawa (2nd year, Faculty of Letters), Momoyo Suzuki (4th year, Faculty of Faculty of Liberal Arts), and Chirei Ohashi (3rd year, Faculty of Law). Despite their nervous expressions, the students used gestures and body language to talk about the appeal of the books within the five-minute time limit. As a result of the audience's vote, Shimada, who introduced Kotaro Isaka's "Fuga wa Yuga," was declared the champion, advancing him to the Kanto D Block finals. Suzuki, who introduced Natsuko Imamura's "Toki ni Natta Asa," was declared the runner-up, earning him the right to compete in the Teikyo University preliminary competition, which will be held on the second day of the Seisha Festival.
On the second day, the "National University Biblibattle 2024 Teikyo University Preliminary" was a battle that included not only the reading supporters but also students from other universities. Suzuki, who had been the runner-up the day before and had a frustrated look on his face, received a lot of support from the audience and became the champion, and will compete in the Kanto E Block finals.
If a book is selected as the champion in each block, it will be eligible to compete in the main event of the "National University Bibliographic Battle 2024 - Capital Showdown" to be held at Showa Women's University on Sunday, December 22nd of the same year. Unfortunately, Shimada and Suzuki narrowly missed out on the championship in their block, but Takase Kota (4th year, Faculty Faculty of Liberal Arts), who won other preliminary rounds and advanced to the Kanto C Block final, introduced "First, Make a Cow into a Ball" by Tsugikari Yuba, which won the champion book and successfully advanced to the main event. Please keep an eye on the future achievements of our students.
On the first day of the Seisha Festival, our university's Chairman and President Yoshihito Okinaga visited the Co-Reading Festa and interacted with the Co-Reading Supporters students, including purchasing books at the "Comment Market."
In the future, our university's Media Library Center will continue to implement various initiatives to stimulate the desire to read, with the motto of ``reading each other,'' ``recommending each other,'' and ``reviewing each other's books.''
This is an activity in which students who have a passion for Teikyo University Media Library Center (MELIC), love books, or want to try event management connect books and people and convey the new appeal of reading.
