On Saturday, October 26, 2024, Teikyo University's Cheerleading Club held a cheer dance class at Hachioji Campus. This event was part of the "TEIKYO Multi-Sports Carnival," organized by the university's Sports Bureau, which provides opportunities for students to experience and enjoy sports. The goal of this multi-sports event for elementary school students in the Tama area is to allow even those who are not good at sports to experience the joy of sports through interactions with Japan's top university teams and top athletes. In order to hold this event, we received advice from Kana Iwano, the head coach of the university's Cheerleading Club, and thorough preparations were made to run the cheer dance class.
Cheerleading Club students worked hard to ease the tension of the approximately 60 children who participated, assigning each child a role and interacting with them with a smile, ensuring they enjoyed dancing. The student who acted as MC kept the participants excited while also managing the proceedings accurately, and the children focused and worked hard on the dance. Some children even stayed close to the students during the hydration break, actively interacting with the children and working to ensure they shared a fun time.
At the dance recital held after each team practice, the children were encouraged to call out to each other so that they could experience the joy of cheering on their teammates, and there were also photo opportunities for parents, creating an atmosphere where everyone could enjoy themselves. At the end of the event, the students also told the children that the most important things in cheerleading are "energy, courage, and smiles!", bringing smiles to their faces.
Teikyo University will continue to hold sports events that are closely connected to the local community, creating opportunities for children to experience sports.
